Critic Review"CARNIVORE GIVES PEAS A CHANCE" with a message like "no product of slaughter used" on its cards, it's a safe bet there won't be too many chicken wings and burgers on the Whole Meal Café's menu. That doesn't mean that only vegetarians and vegans will enjoy their food - quite the opposite, in fact. This friendly café just off Streatham High Road has been going for more than 25 years and offers "100 per cent vegetarian" food. Being a pretty keen -meat eater in no way meant that I couldn't enjoy the tasty offreings available here, though. I started off with a health organic pineapple juice (£1.60) while my partner in dine went for a bottle of five percent Samsmith's orgainic lagers (£3.25), decribed as "full-bodied with a healthy taste". Then it was the main course, For me, a plate-filling Homity Pie (£5.75) - hot mashed potato and onion garlic in pastry, with salad and dressing, it was so delicious and healthy, I almost ordered another one. My partner poted for the special -Indian vegetable coconut curry with organic rice (£6.00), which was eaten with phrases like "b***dy huge portion" and healthy fresh". Although stomached-out after our homity and curry experiences, we found room for a portion of the café's piece de resistance :Banoffe Pie (£2.75), A TOTALLY DELICIOUS dessert of bananas and cream on a biscuit base. Unmissable - a bit like the Whole Meal Café itself, which is well worth visit if you're after large portions of healthy food, or even just different eating experience from that available in Streatham's many restaurants.
